Why Your Makeup Base Determines Everything
No matter how beautiful your eye makeup or lip colour is, if your base is patchy, mismatched, or melting off by noon, the whole look falls apart. In Bangladesh's heat and humidity, getting your base right is even more critical.
Step 1: Skin Prep
The best base starts before you open any makeup product. Properly moisturised, primed skin holds makeup longer and looks more natural. Allow your moisturiser to absorb fully (5 minutes) before applying primer.
Step 2: Choosing the Right Primer
Primers create a smooth surface, fill pores, and extend makeup wear. Choose based on your skin concern:
- Oily skin: Mattifying or pore-filling primer (silicone-based)
- Dry skin: Hydrating, luminous primer
- Redness/uneven tone: Green or peach colour-correcting primer
- Dull skin: Illuminating/strobing primer
In Bangladesh's humid climate, a long-wear or oil-control primer is almost universally beneficial.
Step 3: Finding Your Foundation Shade
Shade matching is where most people go wrong. The key rules:
- Match to your neck, not your hand or wrist (these are usually darker)
- Test in natural daylight — not under store fluorescent lighting
- Identify your undertone: warm (golden/yellow), cool (pink/red), or neutral
- Most Bangladeshi skin tones are warm to neutral undertone — look for "golden," "warm beige," or "honey" shades
Foundation Coverage Levels
- Sheer/Light: BB cream, CC cream, tinted moisturiser — natural, skin-like finish, great for everyday
- Medium: Most liquid foundations — covers minor discolouration and imperfections while still looking skin-like
- Full: High-coverage foundations — excellent for events, photography, or significant hyperpigmentation
Foundation Finishes
- Matte: Controls shine, long-wearing, great for oily skin — can look flat on dry skin
- Satin/Natural: Balanced finish, universally flattering, neither flat nor dewy
- Dewy/Luminous: Beautiful glowing effect — looks gorgeous in photos but needs setting powder on oily areas
Step 4: Concealer
Concealer should be applied after foundation — this minimises how much product you need and gives a more natural finish.
- Under-eye circles: Go 1–2 shades lighter than foundation; peach/salmon corrector under concealer cancels blue/purple tones
- Blemishes/spots: Match exactly to your foundation shade for seamless coverage
- Redness: Green colour corrector + matching concealer
Setting Your Base for All-Day Wear in the Heat
- Set with a translucent or pressed setting powder, focusing on the T-zone
- Finish with a long-wear setting spray
- Blot (don't rub) during the day with oil-blotting paper
- Use a mini setting spray for a midday refresh
Tools: Brush vs Sponge vs Fingers
- Beauty blender/damp sponge: Most natural, skin-like finish. Best for liquid foundations.
- Foundation brush: More coverage, better for full-coverage formulas
- Fingers: Warms product, quick — great for thin/BB creams
